What changes from page to page is the advice, and that genuinely does change.\n\nThere is a version of this page that would simply not mention the limitation, and it would sell about the same number of strips and disappoint more people.\n\nThe behaviour that matters is nesting, not perching. A wren picks a gap: behind a downpipe bracket, in a hollow block end, under a loose flashing, inside a rolled up awning. None of those is a surface a strip covers.\n\nSo the sequence is mesh first. Wait until any nest in use is finished with, clear it, and close the gap with a fine stainless mesh that a small bird cannot push through. Our bird netting page covers the mesh sizes.\n\nThe strip is worth adding where a wide beam, a sign top or a run of parapet sits directly above the crevices, because that is a real perch and removing it makes the whole area less attractive. Treat it as the second half of the job rather than the first.",
