Looking after it

Clear leaves and nesting material out from between the pins once or twice a year. Once enough debris packs in, a bird can stand on that instead of on the spikes, which is the one way a fitted strip stops working.

The one most people need.

The standard 304 stainless strip, sold by the 50 cm. If you are not sure which of our spikes to order, it is almost always this one.

This is the standard strip, and it is the same product sitting behind most of the species pages on this site.

304 stainless steel pins on a UV stabilised polycarbonate base, sold per 50 cm with no minimum order.

It suits any surface a larger bird lands on: window ledges, aircon units, parapets, roof edges, gutters, fence tops and signage.

Fix it with silicone adhesive, screws, nails or cable ties, cut it to length, and it needs nothing again beyond an annual clear out.

If you are not sure which spike to buy, this is the answer.

Bird Spikes | Bird Control Spikes | Bird Deterrent Spikes (per 50cm strip)

Worth saying plainly, because it decides what you order. Nine pages on this site sell the SAME stainless strip, named for the animal people type into a search box. There is no different spike behind the pigeon page or the seagull page. What changes from page to page is the advice, and that genuinely does change.

Bird Spikes | Bird Control Spikes | Bird Deterrent Spikes (per 50cm strip)

A gull wants a long clear approach. A pigeon wants a flat place to turn round on. A myna is following a route between two roosts rather than choosing a view. Those are different placement problems that happen to be solved by the same object.

So the product decision is simple and the measuring is not. Measure the whole run, divide by 50 cm, round up, and put two rows on anything wider than about 15 cm.

Bird Spikes | Bird Control Spikes | Bird Deterrent Spikes (per 50cm strip)

Fitting in this climate comes down to preparation. Scrape off the old droppings, wash the surface, let it dry properly, then use a UV stabilised silicone rather than a general purpose glue. Sun, salt air and horizontal rain are what lift a badly bedded strip.

One thing spikes do not do is solve a feeding problem. If somebody nearby is putting food out, the birds stay in the area and use the next ledge along. Treat the surfaces that matter and expect to treat more than one.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. You have 15 days from delivery to return an unused item in its original packaging for an exchange or a refund. Refunds exclude the original delivery charge, and you pay the postage back unless the item was faulty.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Act of the Philippines (Republic Act 7394) covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as your pigeon or seagull spikes?

Yes, the same physical strip. The species pages differ in the advice, not the product, and we would rather say so than have you order three things that are one thing.

Which spikes should I buy, then?

This one, unless one of the species pages tells you something about placement that matches your situation.

Which birds do they actually work on?

Larger birds that need a flat surface to land and turn on: pigeons, gulls, crows, mynas. That is what a spike strip removes.

Will they stop small birds?

Not reliably. A sparrow or a wren is small enough to settle between the pins. Netting is the honest answer for small birds and we would rather point you there than sell you a strip that disappoints.

Steel or plastic?

Steel for coastal air, exposed roofs and anything a specification will be written against. Plastic where it needs to look tidy and cost less, and where nobody is going to inspect it.

Can I fit them on a window ledge?

Yes, and it is the most common use here. Ledges and aircon units above a walkway are where droppings cause the most complaints.

Can I fit them on hollow block or concrete?

Yes. Silicone adhesive on a clean, dry, dust free surface, or masonry screws if you would rather fix mechanically.

Will they survive a typhoon?

The strip itself will. Whether it stays put depends entirely on the fixing, so on an exposed roof edge use screws as well as adhesive rather than adhesive alone.

What about the nests already up there?

Clear them before you fit, and clean the surface properly afterwards. A strip fitted over old nesting material sits on debris rather than on the building.

Do they work at night?

Yes. A roosting bird needs somewhere to stand just as much as a perching one, and the strip does not care what time it is.

Can I paint the base to match the wall?

You can, but you rarely need to. The base is clear and low, and paint on the base is the thing people notice from below.

Do they need power or batteries?

No. That is the argument for a spike over a sonic unit: nothing to charge, nothing to fail, nothing to switch on.

What are they made of?

304 stainless steel pins on a UV stabilised polycarbonate base. The pins do not rust and the base does not go chalky in the sun.

How are they sold?

Per 50 cm strip, with no minimum. Order one if one is all the ledge needs.

How many strips do I need?

Measure the run in centimetres, divide by 50 and round up. The half metre you leave bare at the end is exactly where they will stand.

Do I need two rows?

On anything wider than about 15 cm, yes. One row down the middle of a wide ledge leaves landing room on both sides of it.

What do I fix them with?

UV stabilised silicone adhesive on masonry and tile, screws or nails where there is something to bite into, cable ties on railings and pipes.

Do I have to prepare the surface?

Yes, and it is the step people skip. Scrape off the old droppings and moss, wash the surface, let it dry. Dirt under adhesive is why a strip lifts after one rainy season.

Can I cut them?

Yes. Trim the last strip so the run finishes flush and there is no gap at the end.

Will they fit a curved ledge?

Yes, in short lengths. Several 50 cm pieces follow a curve; one long piece forced round it will lift at the ends.

Do they hurt the bird?

No. The wires are blunt and closely spaced. The animal arrives, finds nowhere to put its feet, and goes somewhere else. That is the whole mechanism.

Are they safe around children and pets?

They are meant for surfaces out of reach. Fit them where nobody puts a hand: above head height, along a parapet, on top of a fence rail.

Will they rust in the rain?

No. 304 stainless is the reason this version costs more than the plastic one, and in a coastal or monsoon climate it is the version worth buying.

How long do they last?

They are made for permanent outdoor use. We do not publish a figure in years, because the honest answer depends on the site.

Are they visible from the ground?

The base is clear and about 5 mm high, and the wires are thin. From street level most people never notice them.

Do you install them?

No, we supply only. Anything at height should be a job for someone equipped to work there safely.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is Philippines wide. It is free on orders over ₱1,900 and ₱650 below that, and orders leave after a 24 to 48 hour handling time, arriving in about 5 to 7 days.

Can I return it if I ordered the wrong amount?

You have 15 days from delivery to send an unused item back in its original packaging for an exchange or a refund, and 30 days to tell us if something arrived faulty or was not what you ordered. Cancelling a paid order before it ships carries a 12.5 per cent processing fee. None of that affects your rights under the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Do you deliver outside Metro Manila?

Yes. We deliver across Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, and the free threshold and the flat rate are the same wherever you are.

Can I buy in bulk for a building or a site?

Yes. Ask for a quote on the wholesale page and tell us the total run in metres, the surface, and whether access needs scaffolding or a lift.

Not sure which one you need?

Tell us the bird, the surface and roughly how long the run is, and we will tell you what suits it before you buy. Free delivery on orders over ₱1,900.
