Knitted UV stabilised nylon with a 2 cm mesh, in two roll sizes. The right product for fruit, vegetables, poultry runs and any opening a spike cannot cover.
Knitted nylon bird netting at 30 g per square metre, UV stabilised, with a 2 cm by 2 cm mesh.
This is exclusion rather than deterrence: the birds do not decide to leave, they simply cannot get in.
It suits fruit trees, vegetable beds, poultry and chicken runs, balconies, and any opening too large for a spike strip.
It cuts to size and does not fray, so an odd shaped bed or a triangular gable opening is no harder than a rectangle.

Netting is the answer to two questions spikes cannot handle. The first is a volume: a fruit tree, a vegetable bed, a poultry run, a balcony. The second is a small bird, which will settle between spike pins and will not get through a 2 cm mesh.
The 2 cm opening is the specification that matters. It is small enough to stop everything from a myna to a maya, and open enough that light, rain and pollinating insects still get through to what is underneath.
How you tension it decides how well it works. Stretch one side too hard and the whole sheet goes out of square, which leaves a slack corner, and a slack corner is a door. Peg the four corners first, then work along the edges.
Leave a gap at ground level and it becomes a trap rather than a barrier: a bird that gets under the edge cannot find its way out. Stake the perimeter down and check it after heavy weather.
It is reusable. Roll it, keep it dry and out of the sun between seasons, and the same net does several years.

What mesh size is it?

Can I cut it?
Yes. It is knitted rather than extruded, so it cuts to shape and does not fray at the edge.
Is anything included?
40 cable ties and 10 ground stakes come in the pack, which is enough for a normal bed or a small tree.
How do I stop it going out of square?
Peg the four corners first and work along the edges. Overstretching one side pulls the opposite side short, and the slack that creates is where birds get in.
Can a bird get trapped under it?
Only if you leave the bottom edge loose. Stake the perimeter down properly and check it after wind.
Will it work over a fruit tree?
Yes, and it is the main use. Drape it over the canopy and gather it at the trunk rather than leaving the bottom open.
Can I use it for a chicken run?
Yes, over the top of a run to keep wild birds out. It is not a predator barrier and should not be used as one.
Will it stop bats?
It is not sold for that, and netting near bats needs care because they tangle. Use a solid barrier instead.
Can I use it on a balcony?
Yes, and it is a common use in condominiums. Check your building rules first, because many have a policy on anything fixed to the facade.
Does it block sunlight?
Very little. A 2 cm mesh at 30 g per square metre is mostly open space.
Will rain get through?
Yes, freely. It is a net, not a cover.
How long does it last?
It is UV stabilised and reusable across seasons. Storing it out of the sun does more for its life than anything else.
Is it strong enough for wind?
It is a knitted net rather than a cheap extruded one, so it resists tearing. It still needs to be tensioned and staked.
What colour is it?
Black, which is the least visible option at a distance.
Can I join two rolls?
Yes, overlap them by 30 cm or so and tie along the overlap with the cable ties.
Will it keep out rats or other rodents?
No. It is a bird net, and a rodent chews through nylon. Use the PVC coated steel mesh on the solar panel page for anything that gnaws.
Which roll should I buy?
Work out the area you need to cover including the sides, not just the footprint. Most fruit trees need the 5m x 20m once you allow for the drop.
Do you sell a finer mesh?
The solar panel bird mesh on our other page is a rigid steel mesh at half inch spacing, which is the finer, permanent option.
Can it go over a vegetable bed on hoops?
Yes, and hoops are better than draping, because the birds cannot reach through to what is touching the net.
Is it safe for pollinators?
A 2 cm mesh lets bees through freely.
Does it come in a colour other than black?
No, one colour only.
Can I leave it up all year?
You can. Taking it down between seasons roughly doubles how long it lasts.
Will it stop mynas eating my fruit?
Yes, if it is tensioned and closed at the bottom. Mynas are persistent about finding a gap.
Is it the same as the solar panel mesh?
No. That is a rigid PVC coated steel mesh for a permanent installation under panels. This is a flexible net.
How do I repair a hole?
Tie it closed with a cable tie or a length of cord. A knitted net does not run.
