It works on movement and glare. Wind turns it, sunlight flashes off it, and it rattles, which together make an open area feel unsafe.
It is the product for places with nothing to fix a strip to: rice fields, orchards, vegetable plots, fish drying areas, open rooftops and jetties.
Cut lengths and tie them between posts, along branches, across a bed or along a rail. Leave them long enough to move.
It is a scare rather than a barrier, which is the honest description and the reason to combine it with something physical near buildings.
Everything about this product depends on two conditions, and it is worth being clear about them before you buy. It needs wind and it needs light. Hung in a sheltered corner it does very little; strung across an open field it is genuinely effective.
Length is the other variable. Short, tight pieces barely move. Cut 60 to 100 cm lengths, tie them at one end only, and let them twist. Space them a couple of metres apart along a line and add more lines rather than more tape per line.
Birds do habituate to a scare in a way they never habituate to a spike. Moving the lines every couple of weeks, or taking them down and putting them back at the point of the season when it matters, keeps the effect up.
For that reason it belongs in a mixed approach. Tape over the open crop, netting over the fruit that has to be protected absolutely, and spikes on the building. Anybody who tells you tape alone will clear a farm is selling you the wrong thing.
One practical note for the rainy season: check the ties after a storm. Tape that has come loose at one end and wrapped itself round a branch has stopped working and you may not notice.

How long is a roll?

What are the pack sizes?
A single roll, a 3 roll pack and a 10 roll pack. The 10 roll pack is the one farms buy.
How does it work?
Movement and glare. It turns in the wind, flashes in sunlight and rattles, and open ground that does that feels unsafe to a bird.
Does it work without wind?
Barely. If the spot is sheltered, this is the wrong product and a physical deterrent is the right one.
Does it work at night?
Much less. It is a daylight product.

Will it work on a rice field?
It is one of the main uses. Run lines across the field on bamboo poles at crop height or a little above.
Will it work in an orchard?
Yes, tied along branches and between trees, though netting is more certain on fruit you cannot afford to lose.
Can I use it on a roof?
Yes, on an open roof with air movement. On a sheltered ledge, use spikes.
Will it harm the birds?
No. There is no contact at all.
Is it safe near livestock?
Yes, though tie it where an animal cannot pull it down and eat it.
Will it tarnish or fade?
The reflective film dulls slowly with sun and dust. Replacing a line costs very little.
Can I reuse it next season?
If it is still bright and unbroken, yes.
Is it sticky like adhesive tape?
No. It is a ribbon, not an adhesive product. You tie it.
What do I tie it with?
The tape itself knots well. Cable ties or twine work on a rough post.
Will it stop pigeons on a balcony?
Not reliably. A balcony is sheltered and pigeons are bold. Spikes are the answer there.
Will it deter fruit bats?
It is sold for birds. Bats fly at night, when the glare does nothing.
Can I combine it with the hanging discs?
Yes, and they work well together: the discs cover a point, the tape covers a line.
Does it come in other colours?
Silver and red is the only finish.
How quickly does it work?
Usually within a day or two on open ground. If nothing changes in a week, the site is probably too sheltered.
Will it damage the crop?
No, as long as it is tied above the plants and cannot whip against them.
Do I need one roll or ten?
A home garden needs one. A hectare of open crop is a 10 roll job.
Is it visible enough to be a nuisance to neighbours?
It is bright and it does flash. Worth a thought before you string it along a shared boundary.
Can I use it inside a warehouse?
No air movement means no effect. Netting or spikes indoors.
