Looking after it

Check the clips once a year when the panels are cleaned. A clip that has worked loose leaves a gap the width of your hand.

Protects The WiringNesting under panels is a wiring risk

Close the gap under the array.

PVC coated galvanised steel mesh with 70 stainless clips, 30 m per roll. The permanent version of exclusion, for the space between the panels and the roof.

Heavy duty galvanised welded steel mesh with a black PVC coating, supplied as a 30 metre roll with 70 stainless steel fastener clips.

It closes the gap between the panels and the roof, which is the warmest, driest, most sheltered nesting site on most buildings.

The mesh openings are half an inch square, small enough to exclude birds and rodents and open enough not to trap debris or block airflow under the array.

The clips attach it to the panel frame rather than to the roof, so nothing is drilled into the roof covering.

It is a permanent installation, unlike the flexible garden netting on our other page.

Solar Panel Bird Proofing | Bird Mesh For Solar Panels | Bird Netting For Solar Panels - 30m roll

Birds nesting under a solar array is a problem people notice late, because the array hides it. The first sign is usually noise, or a drop in output from one string, or droppings running down the tiles below.

The damage is not the nest itself. It is what nests do to cables: pecking, pulling and building on top of DC wiring that is carrying current in an enclosed space. That is why this is a wiring risk rather than a cleanliness problem.

The mesh is fitted as a skirt around the perimeter of the array, clipped to the panel frames. Half inch openings keep out everything that would nest there while letting the air move, and airflow under panels matters for output.

Two practical points. Check that nothing is nesting under the array before you close it, for the obvious reason. And plan the run: the perimeter of an array is longer than people estimate, so measure all four sides including any gaps between rows.

The mesh is not only for solar. It works as a machine guard, an animal enclosure panel, a garden barrier or a vent screen, which is worth knowing if you have a part roll left.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. You have 15 days from delivery to return an unused item in its original packaging for an exchange or a refund. Refunds exclude the original delivery charge, and you pay the postage back unless the item was faulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it actually stop?

Birds and rodents nesting in the gap between the panels and the roof, which is the most sheltered site on most buildings.

Why does that matter?

Because of the wiring. Nesting material and pecking around DC cables under an array is a fire and fault risk, not just a mess.

What size is the mesh?

Half an inch by half an inch. Small enough to exclude, open enough that air still moves under the panels.

How much comes in a roll?

30 metres, plus 70 stainless steel clips.

How much do I need?

Measure the full perimeter of the array, all four sides, plus any gaps between rows. People underestimate this by about a third.

Does it drill into the roof?

No. The clips attach to the panel frames, which is the point of the design.

Will it reduce my output?

No. It sits around the perimeter, not over the panels, and the open mesh keeps airflow under the array.

Can I fit it myself?

The mesh work is straightforward. The roof work is not, and anything above a single storey should be a job for someone equipped to work at height.

What if something is already nesting under there?

Do not close it in. Wait until the nest is finished with, clear it, and then fit.

Will it rust?

It is galvanised and PVC coated, which is why it suits coastal roofs. Cut ends are the vulnerable point, so trim as little as you can.

Do I need gloves?

Yes. Cut steel mesh has sharp ends and this is the one product on the site where that is worth saying.

How do I cut it?

Tin snips or bolt cutters, depending on the gauge. Cut from the panel side so any burr faces inward.

Will it stop rats getting under?

Half inch mesh keeps out anything bigger than a mouse, and it is steel rather than nylon, so it is not chewed through.

Is it the same as your bird netting?

No. That is a flexible nylon net for gardens. This is a rigid steel mesh for a permanent installation.

Can I use it for something else?

Yes. Machine guarding, animal enclosures, garden barriers and vent screens all use the same mesh.

Does it look bad from the ground?

The black PVC coating makes it read as shadow under the panel edge. It is far less visible than the droppings it prevents.

How long does it last?

It is a permanent installation. The coating is what fails first, and it fails slowly.

What happens if a clip comes off?

You get a gap the width of your hand, which is enough. Check the clips when the panels are cleaned.

Will it void my solar warranty?

Clip fixings do not penetrate the frame, but check with your installer, because warranty terms vary.

Can I fit it to any panel frame?

The clips suit standard aluminium frames. Check yours before ordering if the array is unusual.

Does it come in other colours?

Black only.

Should I clean under the array first?

Yes, and wear a mask. Accumulated droppings under panels should not be dry swept.

How long does installation take?

A typical residential array is a morning, once you are safely on the roof.

What about the gaps between rows?

They need meshing too, and they are the part people forget.

Is it a dropship item?

It is fulfilled separately from our warehouse stock. Delivery times are the same as the rest of the site.

Can I use it on a ground mounted array?

Yes, and it is easier, because there is no roof work. The perimeter is usually longer, so measure before ordering.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is Philippines wide. It is free on orders over ₱1,900 and ₱650 below that, and orders leave after a 24 to 48 hour handling time, arriving in about 5 to 7 days.

Can I return it if I ordered the wrong amount?

You have 15 days from delivery to send an unused item back in its original packaging for an exchange or a refund, and 30 days to tell us if something arrived faulty or was not what you ordered. Cancelling a paid order before it ships carries a 12.5 per cent processing fee. None of that affects your rights under the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Do you deliver outside Metro Manila?

Yes. We deliver across Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, and the free threshold and the flat rate are the same wherever you are.

Can I buy in bulk for a building or a site?

Yes. Ask for a quote on the wholesale page and tell us the total run in metres, the surface, and whether access needs scaffolding or a lift.

Not sure which one you need?

Tell us the bird, the surface and roughly how long the run is, and we will tell you what suits it before you buy. Free delivery on orders over ₱1,900.
